Controls Engineer

Position Core Role:
Controls Engineer / Engine Plant Honda Manufacturing of Alabama
Minimum Job Relevant Knowledge:
Communication and organizational skills. Problem solving and troubleshooting ability. Understanding of electrical standards commonly used in industry. Ability to understand and modify PLC programs, CNC ladder, and robot programs including I/O diagnostics. Understand equipment field network designs and protocols. Knowledge of PLC hardware installation, and setup procedures. Basic understanding of machine to IT network communications, and data transfers.
Prioritized Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical support for advanced line problems; working knowledge of software and tools required to troubleshoot and fix. Responsible for learning and/or integrating all equipment, software, and line control systems (ISD, GALC, Quality works). Investigate new technologies to integrate and improve current conditions. Responsible for learning and implementing Line Control Systems (RFID, Job IDs, ISD/GALC/Device Wise, and Equipment interlocks etc.) Control and management of Electrical drawings including reviewing, tracking, and approving change points. Keeping line control documentation up to date. Maintaining working relationship with ISD and other controls support departments. Maintaining and controlling documentation and procedures related to Control Systems (Safety PLC, DCS, etc.). Establish, train, and maintain best practices for controls, programming, wiring, and debug. Maintaining and controlling department electrical and controls specifications. Program control and management (MDT, AutoSave, Image Retention, Robot Image Files, etc.). Review all electrical components to ensure that they meet the specifications set by the project. Develop a preferred electrical components list for vendors to use during the design process. Create utilities layouts for electrical, buss, and network. Develop all field network specifications. Develop ISD communication specifications. Develop all interlock specifications. Troubleshoot equipment by reviewing ladder logic and I/O communications. Support equipment runoffs and installations. Review vendor designs to ensure they meet electrical specifications.
Daily Tasks Performed:
Shift to shift communication to understand real time SEQCDM issues. Support in equipment specifications writing. Make quality adjustments to ensure in standard production parts. Track and record daily downtime data. Attend communication meetings to understand line direction and activity. Monitor downtime activity and perform root cause analysis to improve conditions. Address safety concerns.
Required Experience:
Minimum 5 years of electrical controls experience preferred.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 5 years of Controls Engineering experience preferred, or minimum 7 years of maintenance experience with heavy focus on electrical controls.
Required Skills:
Microsoft Office. Communication and organizational skills. Strong problem solving skills- determine root cause and countermeasure. Proficient in reading and understanding electrical drawings. 5 years of experience programming PLCs. 5 years of experience adding electrical components to existing equipment by wiring components and modifying ladder logic. As required support off-shift and weekend department activity. As required travel domestically and internationally to support department activity. Available to work overtime and travel on short notice. Able to manage projects and meet schedules. Self-motivated. Able to work independently, or as part of a diverse team/support groups (production, contractors, and suppliers).
Desired Skills:
AutoCAD experience. CNC programming experience. Robot programming experience. Ability to install PLC racks and modules as needed. Specified field network designs, including network protocol types. Familiar with industrial automation Ethernet networks from field network level up to the plant network level. Graphical user interface programming experience. Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform root cause analysis. Knowledge of machine components and operation. Able to lead meetings and present technical reports. Ability to track and manage daily like KPI's and make adjustments and necessary.
Honda Factors:
Manufacturing Environment/Machining area. Estimated weekly overtime 8-16 hours. Travel 15-20% of time.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
